Photography by Ric Kirchner
Started photography by in high school as the lead photographer for the yearbook and newspaper staff. Continued in college, then while in corporate life transitioned into a wedding photography, followed by an expansion into low level aerial, portraits and events
Photography has been one of my passions since I was a kid. I remember having a small Kodak camera with a plug in flashbulbs as a grade schooler, and was behind the lens from an early age. During high school I started to get serious about photography. I became skilled in the darkroom and led a group of six photographers for our school newspaper and yearbook. Many enjoyable years behind the lens occurred during that time, capturing the events surrounding my life and friends.
On to college spent two years on the staff for The University of Dayton Flyer News and Daytonian. One of my great memories of those years was being one of the first to capture Flyer basketball through the lens from the catwalks high above UD arena. Those photos live on in the copies of the yearbooks of that era.
From there photography became more of a hobby than a career as I settled in to a long and successful career with a local major corporation. All the while I remained an avid photographer, doing a few weddings for friends from high school and college and becoming the family photographer for events over the years.
It was around 2000 that I began to seriously consider making my photography a business. I partnered with a friend at work to take some of his overflow wedding work which had been successfully built on referrals for over 20 years. After training for a few weddings I set out on my own to build my own market segment doing budget weddings. After a number of weddings over several years, i started doing some occasional portrait work, and started shooting nature and travel photography and even branching into videography.
In 2008, I founded Miami Valley Elevated Photography, llc, a ground based aerial photography company, serving a number of different markets in southwest Ohio.
Today, my wedding photography spans the next generation, with my accomplished daughter (Krista Snapp Photography) and I both marketing wedding photography and assisting each other with much larger weddings. We have a unique blend of the traditional style and artistic photojournalism that is in demand for the times. We deliver a great product for our clients.
First and foremost, almost anything is fair game. I do most of my work on location, so I am not tied to the constraints of a studio to handle whatever needs you may have. While I have package prices and general pricing for most services, it is best to provide your needs and then we develop a custom quote.
